ABOUT ME

About Me

It all started in Hong Kong where I lived with my family when I was a child. I was asked at school to choose an extra- curricular activity, I took up playing the guitar as this seemed the best option and so began the musical journey. I was actively involved in musicals throughout my school life and also joined with other musicians to form a Led Zeppelin tribute band. During rehearsals, I started to pay particular attention to the drummer, thinking how much fun it looked and wanting to have a go for myself. The opportunity arose to try the school drum kit and I instantly fell in love. During break time I locked myself in the music room and created what can only be described as cacophony. This caused the music teacher to run from the other end of the school and start wildly bang on the door. I was told that I just could not make that kind of noise – the rest is history!
After leaving school I went on to attend a performing arts course at college  where i studied drama, dance, live performance and music theory. Engaging with other musicians on the course led to many musical projects; one project in particular, involved producing our own album and supporting other bands gigging at universities all over the UK. After college, I spent the next few years honing my skills, developing my technique and learning my trade. This eventually led me to Guildford to study a Contemporary Music course at the ACM (Academy of Contemporary Music), where I had the opportunity to fine tune my skills. During this time, I was auditioning for up and coming bands and record companies, including Sony and Virgin. I was also invited for recording sessions with people like Don Arden (Small Faces, Black Sabbath, ELO).
After graduating with honours from the ACM, I stayed on in Guildford and continued to gig the London scene, working with many bands and artists. I also worked with producers/writers such as Jake Gosling and James Mein (Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga and Paloma Faith), Top of The Pops with Alex Parkes (BBC Fame Academy Winner 2003). Performed live with Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) and on  CD:UK with T.A.T.U.
I also had the amazing opportunity to tour the UK and Italy, working with Stewart Copeland from the Police
After moving back to the Midlands, I wanted to be able to pass on my knowledge and skills to others. This led to a collaboration with Yamaha Music Schools, teaching group lessons (up to 10 people). I spent years developing teaching syllabi and lessons, learning how to tailor lessons to individuals and creating teaching tools.  I have worked in many schools in peripatetic roles, and also became a full time Music teacher in one of the local private schools, teaching classes from reception to Year 8. This experience has enabled me to understand many different routes into learning, which I am now able to utilise and pass on to my current students.
My goal is to see each and every student realise their potential and inspire each individual along their musical journey, helping them through the challenges of learning an instrument whilst having fun!
